CMIT/MIT In-Can Preservative
Benzisothiazolinone (BIT) Preservative
BIT 20 is a benzisothiazolinone preservative for in-can protection of emulsion paints and polymer emulsions against microbial growth.
BIT 20 is suitable for emulsion paints and synthetic polymer emulsions used in coatings, helping control bacterial, yeast and mold contamination during storage of aqueous formulations. Amines do not affect active-ingredient stability. It is incompatible with certain oxidizing and reducing agents, including peracid salts and sulfites.
It is effective at system pH 4–12. Recommended dosages, expressed as product concentration in the respective system (w/w), are 0.05%–0.15% for synthetic polymer emulsions and emulsion paints; 0.05%–0.25% for water-based adhesives and tape adhesive compounds; and 0.05%–0.15% for aqueous mineral slurries and pigment dispersions.
Packed in 25 kg drums. Stability is at least one year at normal storage temperatures.
