Defoamers for Coatings

Xytu® B199

Defoamer for High-Viscosity and High-Build Coatings

B199 is a defoamer for high-viscosity and high-build coating systems, supporting foam suppression and deaeration during formulation and application.

Description

B199 combines mineral oil and silicone for strong defoaming in high-viscosity elastomeric textured coatings and high-build coatings. It helps eliminate residual microfoam for a more uniform coating appearance, has little effect on gloss, and is particularly suitable for single-coat elastomeric coatings. It also provides foam suppression and deaeration.

Applications

Premium construction putties, smooth-finish elastomeric and high-build elastomeric coatings, printing pastes, water-based inks and inorganic coatings.

Recommended Dosage

General recommendation: 0.1%–1.2% by mass of the coating. The following application-specific levels are based on the total formulation:

  • High-build elastomeric architectural latex paints: 0.2%–0.8%.
  • Smooth-finish elastomeric architectural latex paints: 0.1%–0.2%.
  • Water-based inks: 0.1%–0.5%.
  • Premium construction putties: 0.1%–0.5%.

Addition Method

Add 30%–50% of the intended total defoamer quantity during grinding, then add the remaining 70%–50% during letdown. Stir or shake thoroughly before use. The source notes that separation during storage does not affect performance.

Packaging and Storage

Supplied in 25 kg, 180 kg or 850 kg plastic drums. Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored in unopened original containers at -5°C to +40°C.
