Emulsions for intumescent coatings

Xytu® LH-360

VAE Binder for Intumescent Coatings

LH-360 is a VAE binder for intumescent coating formulations. Confirm compatibility and fire performance in the complete coating system.

Description

LH-360 is a water-based vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) copolymer emulsion used as a binder for intumescent coatings. It provides pigment-binding ability and is compatible with pigments and fillers, with good electrolyte stability.

The Chinese TDS describes a milky-white liquid containing no solvents or plasticizers, with very low VOC content and no alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO).

Binder Selection for Intumescent Coatings

LH-360 is a formulation binder. The supplied TDS does not establish certification or a fire-resistance rating for a finished coating. Select and test the complete coating system for the intended substrate and project requirements.

  • Provide the pigment and filler package, proposed binder level and application method for compatibility assessment.
  • Identify the substrate, primer, any topcoat, and the intended drying and service conditions.
  • Confirm the required finished-system tests with technical support before specifying performance.

The source gives viscosity at 23°C but does not specify the instrument, spindle or speed. It also gives no formulation dosage. Request those details for comparative testing.

Packaging and Storage

Packaging sizes are 50 kg / 220 kg / 1100 kg. Store in the original packaging at 5–35°C away from sunlight. Shelf life under these conditions is 6 months.

Documenting Binder Selection

For a useful comparison, record the complete coating formulation, binder level and its calculation basis, substrate preparation, primer and topcoat, film thickness, curing conditions and test method. Compare pigment binding and film appearance before assigning any finished-system performance. Fire-resistance claims require evidence for the complete coating system.

Published Formulation Reference

The water-based intumescent coating formulation for interior steel lists 17 ingredients, including 22% LH360 by formulation mass, and a three-stage mixing sequence. This is a specific trial formulation, not a general binder dosage recommendation.

The article does not provide a complete fire-test report, tested dry film thickness, steel section details or full curing conditions. Its performance target is not a certified rating. Confirm the substrate, primer and topcoat, pigment/filler compatibility, film build and complete-system test evidence before specifying fire performance.
